Some homeless people use B&Bs as temporary accommodation
Edinburgh City Council is to consider closer links with communities where bed and breakfast hotels are used for homeless temporary accommodation.

Councillors will examine a report setting out how B&Bs would be monitored and how action would be taken to tackle any problems.

Potential complaints range from noise and threats to acts of violence.

The Homelessness (Scotland) Act places a duty on councils to provide temporary accommodation for homeless people.

In January it emerged that the Scottish Executive was considering banning B&Bs for homeless families.

Communities Minister Margaret Curran is consulting on what is deemed suitable accommodation for children.

Ms Curran said children should be housed in B&Bs only in extreme circumstances.
