 British Energy will move its HQ to Livingston |
British Energy has announced plans to transfer its headquarters to Livingston from East Kilbride. The company, which runs the UK's nuclear power stations, confirmed that about 80 jobs will be lost.
It also said that 130 engineering and technical staff will relocate to Gloucester under cost-cutting plans.
British Energy has been undergoing a financial restructuring after receiving more than �400m from the UK Government to meet its debts.
The company announced the job cuts and transfers in July 2003 when it said it planned to sell its base in Peel Park, where 350 people work.
It insisted at the time that its head office would still be based in Scotland, but at smaller premises. British Energy has signed a 15-year deal to lease 24,000sq ft of office space in Systems House on Livingston's Alba Campus.
A spokeswoman for the company said: "There was some talk when we announced the sale of Peel Park that we would have a brass plate office in Scotland, but that is definitely not the case.
"We are a Scottish company and are committed to being a Scottish company."
She said the site was chosen after analysis of staff home post codes.
"There wasn't a single location that suited everybody equally, but Livingston was the best option," said the spokeswoman.
