Scottish students are being warned to be wary of rogue landlords
Scottish students are being warned to be wary of rogue landlords when they seek accommodation.

Housing charity Shelter Scotland has published a guide to help students deal with property leases, repair problems and dealing with eviction threats.

The document, produced with the National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland, is also available online.

Shelter Scotland director Liz Nicholson said students could face "real hardship" with unscrupulous landlords.

'Comprehensive guide'

She said: "Many private landlords and letting agents provide an excellent service for students as well as other tenants.

"Unfortunately, there are always a few which leave a bitter taste in the mouth and can cause real hardship.

"That is why we have worked with NUS Scotland to produce a comprehensive guide to renting."

The guide to letting can be viewed via the Shelter website.
