The single biggest seizure of cash under new legislation to confiscate the proceeds of crime has been made in court at Dumfries. The sheriff granted an application for almost 162,000 of suspected drug money to be handed over.
The cash was initially recovered in December from a Glasgow man stopped by police on the M74 near Dumfries.
The application was made to the court by the Civil Recovery Unit on behalf of Scottish ministers.
A separate case saw a further 13,690 confiscated under the same legislation.
It brings the total amount seized in Dumfries and Galloway in the last year to moe than 250,000.
Detective Sergeant Graham Edwards, of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, said: "We are delighted with the result of the court hearings.
"We have demonstrated this force's commitment to making full use of the powers given by the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and we are resolved to continue to do all we can to remove the financial rewards of criminal activity.
"These cases show how, with partnership working between the police and the Scottish Ministers' Civil Recovery Unit, the legislation is being used to take back the profits of crime from criminals."
