Fake goods worth 5m seized
CD
CDs, DVDs and computer games were seized
Counterfeit DVDs, CDs and computer games worth more than 5m have been seized by police following a raid on a house in Blantyre.

Strathclyde Police said the house was being used as a factory, with the equipment to produce 80 copied discs every two minutes.

Prior to the search on Saturday, intelligence was gathered by police and the British Phonographic Industry.

No-one has been arrested but police said enquiries were continuing.

Detective Constable Alan McCartney said the seizure should act as a deterrent to others.

Illegal trade

He said: "We are determined to crack down on those who are involved in the production of counterfeit materials.

"We will not stop at this and others involved in this illegal trade will be our next target."

Pat Ferguson from the British Phonographic Industry said: "This is a very, very significant seizure which has taken out a factory.

"As well as targeting the areas where the counterfeit material is being sold from, part of our strategy is to target the locations where they are being copied."

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
