The Ratho Adventure Centre near Edinburgh was years behind schedule and millions over budget.

It cost �22m and became home to the world's largest indoor climbing area and national judo centre.

The receivers said the jobs of the 78 staff who work at the complex are currently safe and they added that they are confident of finding a buyer.

Fatal attraction

Ratho, which opened in November last year, represented the biggest investment in adventure sport in Europe.

Although it had hosted the climbing world cup it has failed to attract enough people and generate enough money to cover the costs.

It had estimated it would have at least 200,000 people going through its doors each year.

The 120,000ft complex is built on a former quarry, has a 100ft climbing walls and a stretch fabric roof, similar to that used on the Edinburgh's Dynamic Earth attraction.
