A80 reopened after repairs made
Damaged bridge
Damage was caused to a bridge by an unidentified vehicle
The A80 in central Scotland has been reopened following emergency repairs.

The northbound lane of the dual carriageway was closed after damage to an overbridge near the Castlecarey viaduct was discovered.

The bridge, just south of Haggs interchange, has now been made safe with all traffic measures removed.

The road was closed overnight with repairs completed by Amey Highways engineers ready for the Thursday morning rush hour.

Repairs postponed

Further repair work and closures were scheduled for Thursday and Friday nights but this has now been postponed due to the cold weather.

Central Scotland Police urged drivers to avoid the area on Wednesday and at one point there were nine-mile tail-backs.

It is thought a six-foot chunk of the structure was removed, possibly by a crane on an as yet unidentified lorry some time on Wednesday, making the bridge unsafe.
