VisitScotland has launched a new website highlighting Scotland's romantic side.

The tourism agency has stressed the country's strengths as a setting for short breaks, weddings and honeymoons.

As well as information on breaks in more than 50 hotels and guest houses, the site has information on places to get hitched across Scotland.

A number of celebrities have chosen Scotland as the place to be married.

The official launch of the campaign on the eve of Valentine's Day featured Miss Scotland Nicola Jolly in a shower of specially-created tartan confetti.

Romantic soul

VisitScotland's Alistair Gronbach said: "Celebrities such as Madonna, Stella McCartney, Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle all chose Scotland as the venue for their marriage.

"But Scotland can be enjoyed by romantic couples who don't have the celebrity bank balance too."

After posing with the tartan confetti, Ms Jolly said: "The new combination of tartan and confetti is a perfect marriage of ideas highlighting the romantic soul of Scotland."

The campaign launch comes just days after VisitScotland was criticised by MSPs over its performance.

It also emerged that its website was proving difficult to access via one of the world's biggest internet service providers.
