Glasgow is to ban the sale of glass bottles from late-night takeaways in a bid to cut down on street violence. The city council's licensing committee backed the move, which is due to come into force next month.
The step follows concern over discarded glass being used as a weapon by people leaving pubs and clubs.
The ban applies to all goods sold in glass containers from more than 100 premises which sell hot food after 2300GMT in the city.
The proposals do not affect restaurants or premises without takeaway facilities.
Bailie Malcolm McLean, convener of the committee, said: "I'm delighted at the support the late-night traders have shown the committee today.
"This is another positive step to make Glasgow a safer city by reducing the incidence of injury from glass."
Unless there are objections, the ban will come into effect by the end of February.
