Waverley reopens after upgrade
Waverley Station
Services resumed on Monday morning
Waverley Station in Edinburgh has reopened following essential work undertaken at the weekend.

The city's main station had been closed to trains throughout Saturday and Sunday while the work was carried out.

The closure was ordered to allow the completion of a 34m project to replace signals and other control gear.

Network Rail said almost 100 engineers were involved in the successful upgrade. Services were reported to be back to normal on Monday.

Ron McAulay, Regional Director of Network Rail, said: "Edinburgh's Waverley Station is a hub for many journeys across the UK.

"The old signalling which has served the station well over a number of years was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.

"This project which comes on stream today after 18 months of work and the laying of almost seven miles of electrical cable across the whole station will have long term benefits for the commuter."
