Scotland's first daily flights to Munich will fly from the capital

Birmingham-based Duo Airlines will start flying passengers to the Bavarian capital from March with fares starting from �69 each way.

The company combined with BAA Scotland, through its �60m route development fund and Scottish Enterprise to start the new route.

Since forming in 2003, Duo has flown 10,000 passengers from Scotland.

Direct Routes

Duo Chief Executive Peter Spencer said: "We are now an airline with more direct routes from Scotland to Europe than any other company.

"We encourage the business community of Scotland to take up the opportunities in Bavaria."

From 28 March, the company will also be operating two other new routes from the capital.

A new service to Nice is due to be launched alongside a twice-daily service to Birmingham with fares starting from �29 each way.

Edinburgh Airport Managing Director Richard Jeffrey said: "BAA Scotland's policy is to promote more direct services to and from our three Scottish airports and we will work hard with Duo, and other airlines, to encourage travellers to fly direct from Scotland and help put in place the conditions necessary for more direct routes."
