The Scottish Executive is being urged to guarantee the future of two ferry services which could be threatened by the removal of Skye Bridge tolls. Ministers have promised to remove the tolls before 2007.
But there are fears that the move will result in the demise of the Glenelg-Kylerhea and Mallaig-Armadale ferries.
Highland councillor Charlie King warned that millions of pounds were at stake and said he was not reassured by a letter from the transport minister.
Nicol Stephen has already stressed that the executive has no plans to withdraw the Caledonian MacBrayne service between Mallaig and Armadale.
Mr King claimed the reply was too open-ended and said he wanted to see financial guarantees for both services.
About 200,000 people use the links annually, putting �5m into the local economy.
