OAP dodges death in rail crash
A 79-year-old woman narrowly escaped death when her car was hit by a train on a level crossing in Perthshire.

She was crossing the railway line at Forteviot, south of Perth, when the train crashed into her car and smashed it to pieces at 1058 GMT.

The elderly driver was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary with slight neck and other minor injuries.

The train was the 0755 GMT Inverness to London King's Cross service and was travelling at 80mph when it struck.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "No one on the train was injured as a result of the incident although the driver was clearly shaken.

"An investigation is ongoing as to what happened and a report made.

"The train has now resumed its journey south."
