Edinburgh has received a special award from MTV for its successful hosting of the European Music Awards ceremony. It is the first time MTV has made such an award, praising the Scottish capital for its hospitality and professionalism.
The award was presented by MTV Europe's Simon Guild and accepted jointly by Tourism Minister Frank McAveety and Edinburgh's Lord Provost Lesley Hinds.
Last month's event generated �4m for the city's economy and helped promote it as a tourist destination.

Mr Guild said: "We were staggered by the incredible support, the high level of local expertise and the warm welcome we received from everyone in Scotland. "We believe that the 10th MTV Europe Music Awards was one of the best MTV shows ever made, anywhere in the world."
MTV executives believed Edinburgh was "a fantastic location".
'Worldwide admiration'
Accepting the award, Mr McAveety said: "I am delighted for Edinburgh and for Scotland that we have been recognised by the organisers as hosting the best ever MTV awards ceremony with our own special award.
"We have showcased what we have to offer to a global audience and won worldwide admiration for it.

"I think that speaks volumes about everyone involved whose hard work made such a great opportunity for Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland come to life." The awards ceremony was beamed to an estimated audience of one billion people in 28 countries.
Justin Timberlake picked up awards for best pop artist, best male and best album.
The ceremony was hosted by Christina Aguilera, who also picked up the award for best female.
The big top in the Leith area of the city saw performances by Kylie Minogue, Beyonce Knowles, Pink, The White Stripes, The Darkness and Black Eyed Peas.
