Signs of manufacturing recovery

Manufacturers could be turning their backs on recession
Manufacturing firms are showing the first signs of recovery, according to a report from the industry group Scottish Engineering.

The past three months have seen a turnaround in sectors like electronics, but Scottish Engineering warns that it is still very early days.

Orders and production levels are finally rising, which suggests that manufacturers are turning their backs on recession.

The electronics industry, which has been through its worst ever decline, is now showing the biggest improvement.

More electronics firms are now reporting better orders at home and abroad.

And more companies overall are hiring, rather than firing staff.

But many manufacturers do not want to appear too optimistic until these results become part of a longer term trend.
