The resort will not open this year |
One of Scotland's most famous ski resorts will not be opening for the winter season, it has been announced. The directors of the company that owns the Glencoe ski resort have confirmed that they are mothballing all operations on the White Corries for the coming winter season.
They said talks aimed at finding a sustainable future for the area would continue.
Glencoe opened in 1956 and was the first commercial Scottish ski centre.

Since 1995 it has been owned by the Glenshee Chairlift Company and the company expressed regret at the decision. In a statement the company said: "The directors of Glenshee Chairlift Company regret it has been necessary to 'mothball' the Glencoe Ski Centre, and it will not be open for trading this winter.
"Talks are continuing with various parties including the public sector authorities in an effort to find a sustainable future for the centre."
Local Councillor Drew MacFarlane Slack said the announcement was disappointing but pointed out that the impact on jobs would be limited since the ski area only operates in the winter months.
Recent winter seasons have seen all of Scotland's five ski areas struggle with lack of snow.
Ski areas have been trying to create year-round operations to generate extra income.
