Key aspects of Scottish Enterprise's work are under the microscope |
A financial watchdog has confirmed it is drawing up a top-level report this autumn into the role of jobs quango Scottish Enterprise. The probe for MSPs will focus on the use of outside consultants, and the performance of the organisation in meeting its targets.
The move by Audit Scotland came as the employment body issued its annual report, insisting that it had failed to meet only one of its 22 performance targets.
The financial experts are making it clear that several key aspects of Scottish Enterprise's work are under the microscope.
Concerns, for instance, have been raised about what is claimed to be the agency's over-reliance on contractors.
Also on the watchdog's agenda is the management of flagship projects - including the use of budgets and applications for EU funding - and the numbers of staff employed in what is described as "customer relations."
A Scottish Enterprise spokesperson said the investigation had originally been revealed in March.
She added: "There is absolutely nothing new in this. We welcomed the report back in March and we still welcome it, and look forward to its publication in the autumn."
But Audit Scotland said some of the issues were already the subject of its consideration, while others were brought to the Auditor General's attention through media reports and by Tory MSP Annabel Goldie.
