The British Heart Foundation has launched a new credit card |
People in Scotland are the most charitable in the UK, according to a survey. The British Heart Foundation statistics suggest that Scots are most likely to dig deep for good causes - while Londoners are the least likely to donate money.
The most popular ways of giving cash are through collection boxes in pubs or at charity shops.
According to the survey only 2% of those people questioned in Scotland said they had never given money to good causes.
That figure rose to 8% in London.
Throughout the UK, 11% of those people questioned said the only reason they gave to charity was to avoid looking mean in front of other people.
The statistics suggest:
- 32% of people support charities by volunteering
- 24% put their hands in their pockets after watching special television appeals
- 7% of Scots said they only donated money to avoid looking mean.
The British Heart Foundation has launched a new credit card which sees the charity receive contributions when the user spends money.
Only 6% of people in the UK donate money in this way at the moment, but BHF hopes to raise 1m over the next three years through the scheme.
The survey included the views of 1,013 people throughout the UK.
