Thousands of childcare places will be created |
Almost 7,000 extra childcare places are to be created in Scotland with lottery cash. Projects all over the country will benefit from the latest round of awards from the New Opportunities Fund, totalling almost 6m.
The cash will fund a range of services from Gaelic speaking childminders in the Western Isles to more special needs childcare places in East Dunbartonshire.
The money from the New Opportunities Fund is designed to give greater choice and make life easier for parents across the country.
The lottery distributor was created in 1998 to award grants to education, health and environment projects throughout the UK.
Many of the grant programmes focus particularly on the most disadvantaged in society.
In the latest batch of awards, 48 separate projects will receive extra funding, creating 6,800 places.
The largest grants have been awarded to Fife Council, where the majority of the 1.8m allocated will be used to start up after-school clubs and projects for more than 1,000 older children.
