Private Jason Smith died while serving in Iraq |
An investigation is under way into the death of a Territorial Army soldier said to have experienced furnace-like temperatures while serving in Iraq. Private Jason Smith, 32, from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, was found dead on on Wednesday.
He was part of the 52nd Lowland Regiment Territorial Army Battalion and was serving with the 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB).
The 1st Battalion KOSB arrived in the country in July as part of the changeover of troops, an MoD spokesman said.
Pte Smith, who was single, had served with the Territorial Army since 1992.
Captain Ross Thompson of the 52nd Lowland Regiment said: "He was a good soldier, just the kind of person you would like to have in the TA.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very difficult time."
