Twelve people have been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a health centre at Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow. The blaze was discovered at 1830 BST but was swiftly brought under control.
A Scottish Prison Service (SPS) spokesman said: "I can confirm that there was a fire in the health centre at Barlinnie as a consequence of which seven staff and five prisoners required treatment for smoke inhalation.
"Their injuries are not considered to be life threatening."
The cause of the fire is not yet known, the SPS spokesman added.
Strathclyde Police said eight people - two members of staff and six prisoners - were taken to the city's Royal Infirmary for treatment.
