 Esure said it wants to bolster its Scottish workforce |
The internet and telephone insurance firm esure is to create 250 jobs in Glasgow. The Scottish city is now the company's main operational headquarters in the UK and the new posts will be created in sales and customer services.
The company, which is backed by �150m from the Halifax and Bank of Scotland, opened new offices in the city centre in the summer.
It aims to create 700 jobs in Scotland over the next five years.
The firm also has offices in Reigate, Surrey, and Cheadle Hume, in Cheshire.
Esure currently employs more than 650 staff in the UK, 200 of them in The Equinox building in Glasgow in a mixture of sales, claims and support roles.
The company was started last year with backing from the Halifax to provide insurance for motorists and homeowners.
A spokesman for esure praised its "highly motivated" Glasgow workforce.
Meanwhile, First Minister Jack McConnell is due to stress the importance of successful financial services sector in creating a prosperous economy. He is expected to say the Scottish Executive is committed to creating long-term economic growth.
