Rail work causes delays
GNER
The East Coast Main Line is affected by the work
Passengers on one of Scotland's busiest railway lines are facing major delays as vital maintenance work is carried out over the Easter weekend.

GNER and Virgin Trains are running replacement bus services as Network Rail carried out works at Dolphinstone and Prestonpans in East Lothian.

Services on Virgin's Edinburgh-Birmingham route were being replaced by a bus between Edinburgh and Newcastle until Monday morning.

A Virgin spokeswoman warned that this would increase journey times by up to an hour and a half.

Quietest days

Meanwhile, GNER was running replacement buses between Edinburgh and Berwick until midnight on Sunday.

Passengers on the Edinburgh-London King's Cross service were advised to allow an extra hour for journeys as a result.

A spokesman for GNER said: "The works are being carried out this weekend because Network Rail advised us that these are the quietest two days of the year."
