| Sunday, 19 May, 2002, 16:39 GMT 17:39 UK Three die on Scotland's roads ![]() The accidents took place in the west of Scotland Three men have been killed in separate accidents on Scotland's roads in less than 24 hours. Two people died following crashes in the early hours of Saturday morning. The third victim was killed in a collision involving three vehicles on the southbound A77 at Newton Mearns just south of the entrance to East Renfrewshire Golf Club. Hospital treatment Passenger John Espener, 44, of Roseness Place, Cranhill, Glasgow, died at the scene of the accident at 1745 BST on Saturday. The 42 year-old male driver of the car in which Mr Espener was travelling was detained at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for treatment, along with the 49-year-old male driver and 47-year-old female passenger in the other car involved. The 42-year-old man who was driving the third vehicle, a van, was discharged from hospital following treatment for a wrist injury.
Kevin Duncan, of Laburnum Grove, Stranraer, was a passenger in the car, which landed in a field after leaving the road. The 17-year-old driver and three other teenage passengers were treated for injuries at Ayr Hospital. In Lanarkshire, a 31-year-old man was killed after his car was involved in a collision with another car at about 0100 BST on the M8 motorway between Shotts and Newhouse. Central reservation Police said that John McCormack, of Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, died at the scene. His car left the road after the collision and hit a sign, while the other vehicle struck the central reservation. The 24-year-old male driver of the second car was not injured.
