| Wednesday, 1 May, 2002, 08:15 GMT 09:15 UK Airgun incident pupil suspended ![]() The incident involved two Fettes pupils. A teenager at an exclusive Edinburgh school has been shot at with an airgun by a fellow pupil. The youngsters both attend Prime Minister Tony Blair's former school Fettes College. It was confirmed that the injured pupil was taken to the school's medical centre following the incident last Friday, but was not seriously hurt. A spokesman for the school said a pupil had been suspended for two weeks as a result but would not elaborate further. Boy suspended However, a source at the fee-paying school said: "It was not a serious incident. There were no serious injuries or emergency treatment. "There was no feud between pupils. It wasn't even like there was a fight between the two. "The boy did take a shot with an air pistol but it wasn't at point blank range but it wasn't serious. "The boy was hit so he was examined obviously and taken to the medical centre and because you can't go shooting people the boy was suspended." Lothian and Borders Police, whose headquarters are opposite the independent school, said they had received no report of the incident between the two pupils, both believed to be aged 17. Drugs test The 11,000-a-year school faced controversy earlier this year when three sixth-form pupils were expelled in February for taking drugs. The boys were asked to leave after two were found with cannabis at a school dance and the third failed a drugs test after a school trip to Belgium. School officials then expelled a 17-year-old girl for disclosing details of the three pupils to the media. Later the same month, a physics teacher resigned after allegations she falsely told staff and pupils that she was suffering from cancer. Fettes is one of Scotland's leading private schools, with fees of up to 17,000 a year for full boarding senior pupils. | See also: Top Scotland stories now: Links to more Scotland stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||
