Police hail crime purge success
Heroin bail
Drugs are a major target in the campaign
Almost 2m worth of drugs have been recovered and 890 people arrested in the first month of a police crackdown across Scotland.

Officers have also recovered more than 90,000 of stolen property, 800,000 contraband cigarettes and 54,000 of counterfeit DVDs, CDs and computer software from raids at open-air markets across the country.

The nationwide Crime Braker campaign, which involves all eight of Scotland's police forces, still has four weeks to run.

During the crackdown, police said two men from Perthshire were arrested in France about to leave for Scotland in a light aircraft with 500,000 worth of drugs on board.

Tom Wood: "Tremendous result"

Lothian and Borders Police seized two Uzi 9mm machine guns, one a replica and one decommissioned, in separate raids in West Lothian and Edinburgh.

One of the largest seizures of amphetamine in Scotland was made by Strathclyde Police when a haul worth 100,000 was recovered.

Lothian and Borders deputy chief constable Tom Wood, who is heading the Crime Braker campaign, said: "Taking nearly 2m worth of drugs off Scotland's streets in just a month is a tremendous result and shows the benefit of police forces across Scotland and other agencies working together to tackle crime.

"These seizures and arrests show the extent to which criminals are using the transport network to commit crimes but by targeting intelligence-led operations and sharing information we can make a difference."

As well as the police forces, Crime Braker involves HM Customs, British Transport Police, the Scottish Drugs Enforcement Agency, the National Criminal Intelligence Service and Crimestoppers.
