| Saturday, 20 April, 2002, 08:52 GMT 09:52 UK Castle date for Simon ![]() Paul Simon's last Scottish date was in Glasgow Edinburgh Castle is to play host to Paul Simon's first Scottish show in a decade, it has been announced. Promoters have clinched a deal to bring the American singer-songwriter to the capital on 25 July. And Fraser Smith of Regular Music said the venue had lured the acclaimed musician to Scotland.
"It was a personal choice by him. He saw the itinerary and decided he wanted to play in Edinburgh because of the castle." The outdoor show on the Castle Esplanade is one of two planned by Simon in the UK this year. He will also play in Liverpool the previous day. His last Scottish appearance was at the SECC in Glasgow 10 years ago. Organisers are confident that the 8,500 capacity concert will be a sell-out. Edinburgh dates Simon first achieved fame in the 1960s alongside Art Garfunkel, and also carved out a successful solo career after their partnership ended. He is only one of several big-name performers who will be playing Edinburgh dates this summer.
