Prince course swap 'speculation'
Prince William
It is reported the prince has opted for a subject change
A report that Prince William has decided to change his chosen degree at St Andrews University has been described as "pure speculation".

St James's Palace said as far as it was concerned, the prince has not opted to swap from history of art to geography in his second year.

According to The Sun newspaper, the 19-year-old prince has discussed the move with his tutors and the Prince of Wales.

The prince has started the four-year course

Asked when he started at university what he wanted to do as a career, he said he was far more interested in the environment than history of art.

The history course includes subjects such as British furniture, architecture, Renaissance Italy and modern art.

It has been reported the prince has been flat-hunting for his second year at St Andrews.

Applications to the university have increased by 44% since it emerged Prince William would be studying in Scotland.

But this has led to its own problems. The university was fined last month because it had attracted too many students.

The funding rules penalise higher education institutions which exceed their recruitment targets - and St Andrews has had to pay back 175,000.
