Airgun shooting injures footballers
Police
The police searched the area but found no one
Police have launched an investigation after three minor league football players were shot with an airgun during a game.

The incident happened as Shotts Bon Accord and Blantyre Victoria played at Castle Park in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on Saturday.

Strathclyde officers carried out a search of the neighbouring area but nothing was found.

The match, which was being watched by 200 spectators, had to be abandoned.

No one found

Two players were taken to local hospitals for treatment, one with an injury to his shoulder, and another struck in the stomach by a pellet.

Both were later released.

A third player was treated at the park after he was hit in the ankle.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "The area was searched but no one was found.

"Door to door inquiries were carried out with negative results but inquiries are ongoing."
