 | | Thursday, 11 April, 2002, 12:30 GMT 13:30 UK Jobs inflated by new gas module  Goldeneye will safeguard jobs in the North Sea Up to 300 jobs will be created during the construction of a gas module at a processing plant in the North-east of Scotland. The �60m contract to build the module at St Fergus, near Peterhead, has been won by Glasgow-based Foster Wheeler. It is part of Shell UK's Goldeneye venture, which will also help to secure jobs at the Fife Natural Gas Liquids plant at Mossmorran. A new platform is being built to tap into the Goldeneye field, whose riches will be piped back to St Fergus. The field has been estimated to hold 500 billion cubic feet of gas reserves and 17 million barrels of condensate.
Danny Carrigan of the engineering union, the AEEU, said: "We see it as jobs secured, as we look at the industry as a whole. "The bonanza days are over and we are treading water in the North Sea. "Over the next few years jobs will decline, so to see investment like this means we will delay that day." Mr Carrigan said he hoped further contracts would be awarded in the future. "If that happens we can have a mini-boom over the next 12 to 18 months offshore.
