"There is a wealth of talented technicians in Scotland. They are some of the best in Europe but they don't get recognition," he said.

"We also have got some great actors as well."

Glasgow Film Office has offered advice and funding to productions such as Trainspotting, My Name is Joe and television programmes such as Tinseltown.

The group, which is funded by Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, the city council, and Strathclyde European Partnership, offers free assistance to professional crews, shooting film, television, documentary or commercials on location in Glasgow.

It also advises on logistical problems such as parking or liaising with police.

'Very vibrant'

Announcing support for the scheme, Scottish Culture Minister Mike Watson said the film body, which was set up in 1997, had already provided a massive boost for the Scottish film industry.

He said: "In terms of film and TV it's very vibrant at the moment. There are London companies coming up here to do business but at the same time.

"I am certain that the moves to encourage Scots to make films have been the biggest developments.

"I'm sure that the encouragement given by the Glasgow Film Office will continue this trend."

Glasgow Film Office says 43 high-value productions have been shot in the city, including 24 feature films, which have raised more than �36m.
