| Thursday, 7 March, 2002, 13:03 GMT Court move over castle demolition ![]() A bulldozer sends masonry crashing A Stirling landowner faces criminal prosecution after demolishing a 200-year-old listed mansion without consent. Stirling Council is to ask the procurator fiscal to take action against Alastair Dickson, who knocked down Lanrick Castle near Doune, on 16 February. Mr Dickson said the building had been in a dangerous condition after being hit by storms. The council's decision to seek a prosecution has been backed by Historic Scotland and Stirling Civic Trust. If Mr Dickson is taken to court and convicted, he could receive a substantial fine, a jail sentence or both. Lanrick Castle stood on Mr Dickson's estate, five miles east of Callander. The land has been in his family for three generations. Prior to the demolition, he approached Stirling Council and said it posed a safety hazard. Stirling Civic Trust had been keen to see the property preserved. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Scotland stories now: Links to more Scotland stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||
