Student stabbed in 'frenzied' attack
Telford College, Edinburgh
The students were returning from Telford College
A teenage student was repeatedly stabbed in an unprovoked attack as he returned from college, police have said.

Two men launched a "frenzied" attack on the 19-year-old as he returned home with a friend after attending the north campus of Telford College in Edinburgh.

The friends were waiting for a bus when they were set upon by the three men in what police said was an "entirely unprovoked attack".

The 19-year-old was repeatedly punched on his head and body and only realised he had been stabbed four times when the attackers ran away.

His 20-year-old friend was attacked by the third man who punched him on the mouth.

A spokesperson for Lothian and Borders said there was no reason at all for the attack, which took place on Tuesday evening.

"The victims were very fortunate they did not suffer more serious injuries," police said.

After the incident, the victims went to a nearby service station to contact the emergency service, when the younger man realised he had been stabbed.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was treated for stab wounds to his lower body.

He has since been released.

His friend suffered a cut to his lip.

The spokesperson added: "The victims believe at least four people were at the bus stop at the time of the attack.

"We would like to trace these individuals as they may have important information about the attackers."

The attackers were aged between 17 and 19 and were all between 5ft 7in and 5ft 9in.

Two of them were described as slim and the other as medium-built.
