Anger at paedophile sentences
Joseph Millbank is led away by police
Millbank's behaviour was condemned by the judge
Thousands of people have demanded longer sentences for child sex offenders to allow them to undergo more effective treatment while in prison.

A group of parents in Aberdeen collected more than 5,000 signatures in five weeks on a petition, which is to be presented to members of the Scottish Parliament.

They were angered by the six-year term given to paedophile Joseph Millbank at the High Court in Edinburgh last month.

The Crown Office is appealing against the length of the sentence.

Millbank was jailed after what was described as one of the biggest child abuse investigations in Scotland.

Millbank was sentenced at the High Court
The 41-year-old from Luncarty, Perthshire, admitted a catalogue of crimes against young girls across Scotland. committed over 10 years while he was working as a shopfitter.

The police know of incidents involving 35 girls, but believe there may have been other victims who have yet to be traced.

Millbank was eventually caught after fingerprints left at the scene of one of the crimes in Inverness were identified as his.

The judge told Millbank that his conduct had been disgusting and perverted.

Parents' fury

Millbank will be on licence for a further 10 years after his release from prison.

But parents of the victims who were in court expressed anger at the "short" sentence.

One said: "It is really terrible that he only got six years and he will probably be out in three years.

"For all the kids that he has done this to is ridiculous, because the kids are never going to forget that."
