| Wednesday, 13 February, 2002, 00:31 GMT Van driver survives cliff plunge ![]() The car went off the road at the Devil's Beeftub A woman motorist escaped serious injury when the van she was driving plunged 500ft, it has emerged. Samantha McShane, 25, clambered up a ravine and flagged down a passing lorry after her car had gone over a sheer drop. The young woman escaped with multiple bruising following the accident on the A701 near Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway. Police said her white Volkswagen van landed on its wheels after leaving the road at a spot known as the Devil's Beeftub, five miles north of the town.
Details of the accident, which happened at about 2030GMT on Monday, were released by police on Tuesday.
