Dozens call soccer violence hotline
Violence erupted at the Aberdeen v Rangers game
Riot police move in as the crowd turn ugly at Pittodrie
A hotline set up to identify troublemakers responsible for the violence at Aberdeen's match against Rangers has received 90 calls from the public.

Grampian Police said it was pleased with the response and renewed its appeal for information following crowd unrest at Saturday's Scottish Premier League game at Pittodrie.

The news came as further top level talks were taking place between league officials, senior representatives of Aberdeen FC and Grampian Police.

The information from the public has been greatly assisting the inquiry

Detectives have been studying CCTV footage of the trouble that flared during the evening match.

Police were also investigating whether an organised gang of English hooligans was responsible for the violence.

Detective Inspector Brian Yule, who is leading the inquiry, said 40 people contacted the hotline on Monday alone.

He said: "The information we have been receiving from the public has been very good and is greatly assisting the inquiry.

"I would urge anyone who thinks they have even the tiniest scrap of information to contact me.

"It will all help to build up the bigger picture.

"The inquiry is progressing well and we are sifting through all the information, both witness statements and photographic evidence, to identify crimes and those responsible."

The SPL's director of football administration Ian Blair will be in Aberdeen for the meetings and will produce a full report for consideration by his board before the end of this month.

Security review

The league is currently examining kick-off times for matches, together with a review of security procedures.

It has appealed to football fans and the general public to contact the police if they recognise any of those responsible for Saturday's incidents.

Scottish justice minister Jim Wallace met Grampian's Police Chief Constable Andrew Brown on Monday to discuss the scenes during the match, which Rangers won 1-0.

Troublemakers fined

As a result of Saturday's events, Aberdeen Football Club is reviewing the stewarding of its home games.

The club is also looking at following the lead of an Australian cricket ground where fans face a 5,000 fine for running onto the pitch.

Grampian Police's hotline number is 01224 386868.
