The Glenfeshie Estate in the Cairngorms has been sold by its Danish owner - to one of his fellow countrymen.

The 24,000-acre estate has been bought by 52-year-old Flemming Skouboe, who recently sold a successful business manufacturing blades for windmills.

And he has promised that he will continue the work being done on the estate with conservation and environmental agencies.

The former owner, Danish businessman Klaus Helmersen, has entered into a series of land management agreements for Glenfeshie.

These include a woodland grant agreement with the Forestry Commission worth �150,000 in the first five years.

Windmill company

But after running into reported financial difficulties, he has now sold out to his fellow countryman for an undisclosed sum.

Mr Skouboe has paid tribute to the work carried out by his predecessor on the estate - and promised to honour his agreements.

The new owner sold his successful windmill aerofoil company to a UK company earlier this year.

He already owns a Danish island where he has promoted green policies.

Glenfeshie contains remains of the ancient Caledonian Forest and has been set up as a model environmentally friendly estate.

The area was a favourite of Queen Victoria - and provided the setting for Sir Edwin Henry Landseer's 19th Century painting Monarch of the Glen.
