The dispute was sparked by faulty ticket machines in a city underground station, according to operator Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT). The company said the closure delayed thousands of football fans on their way to Ibrox for Rangers' Uefa Cup match against Dynamo Moscow.
The 1945 BST kick-off was put back 15 minutes because of the unofficial action. Maintenance staff working in the station walked out over a disciplinary matter leaving the ticket dispensers in a state of disrepair. A spokesman for the company said: "Generally about 10% of people who go to Ibrox would take the underground. "We regret very much the inconvenience caused by the closure, particularly to those at the Rangers match. This was not a union strike but an unofficial wildcat action by station staff, not drivers. "A ticket machine broke down and staff had to issue tickets manually for a while. "Then a representative of one of the unions claimed that there was an agreement which said that no-one had to manually dispense tickets for more than two hours." Last month, three underground stations were closed early to allow staff members to attend a wedding reception for two colleagues. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Scotland stories now: Links to more Scotland stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
