ScotAirways said it was grounding its recently-introduced flights to and from Amsterdam following the terrorist attacks in the US. Demand from the American market has fallen sharply and has had a knock-on effect throughout the world. Many existing reservations have been cancelled.
The company will continue the Inverness to London City Airport service where advance bookings are said to be very strong. ScotAirways was created in October 1999 after a multi-million pound investment into Cambridge-based company Suckling Airways by Stagecoach bosses Brian Souter and Ann Gloag. Sporting a bright red tartan trail, ScotAirways had been providing an increased number of flights between London City Airport, Dundee and Edinburgh airports. The airline uses Dornier 328 turboprop aircraft which carry 31 passengers. Business leaders said flights service would have brought inward investment to the Highlands economy. However, ScotAirways was forced to introduce cancellations, delays and security checks on 12 September, in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the US. |
