| Friday, 17 August, 2001, 16:55 GMT 17:55 UK Body of canoeist found in loch ![]() Mr Nugent's body was found in Loch Doon The body of a man who disappeared when his canoe capsized has been recovered from a loch by police divers. A search for William Nugent, 20, began after the accident on Loch Doon, Dalmellington, Ayrshire, just before 0400 BST on Thursday. Strathclyde Police divers recovered Mr Nugent's body on Friday afternoon. Mr Nugent was with three male friends when his canoe capsized about 250 metres from the shore. Swim ashore He had been in a canoe with one of the group at the time of the accident. Their two friends, who were in a different canoe, tried to rescue him but also fell into the water. A police spokesman said only three of the group managed to swim ashore and alert the emergency services when they failed to find their friend. Mr Nugent's boat was recovered by searchers on Thursday. An air search for his body was called off on Thursday evening. A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said the body has been identified as that of Mr Nugent of Morar Place, Irvine.
