Mother bets on son's World Cup place
Scotland and Brazil
Hope springs eternal for Scotland fans
If Scotland ever wins the football World Cup a proud mother could end up 1m richer.

Sheryl Craig, 33, has put 10 on her son Robert, who is nine-years-old, to hold the celebrated trophy aloft when he is older.

William Hill says it has agreed to the bet, with odds of 100,000/1, to mark the start of the new football season.

Mrs Craig initially placed a bet at odds of 1,000/1 that Robert would one day win a senior international cap for Scotland.

Could the Scots equal this in future?

But the bookmaker then offered odds on a second accumulator bet that he would be part of a World Cup winning side.

Mrs Craig, from Felixstowe, Suffolk, said: "He's got a great attitude towards football and I just got a feeling he had something, and when I get a feeling I usually act on it."

The youngster currently plays for the under 10s at his local team, Felixstowe and Walton United.

He aspires to eventually play for Premiership side Ipswich Town.

His mother is English but his father, Alex, is from Dundee, which would make him eligible to pull on the Scotland shirt.

'It'll never happen'

Mr Craig, 37, moved from his native city to East Anglia in 1988 because of work commitments.

Mrs Craig said: "My husband says it will never happen because Scotland will never win the World Cup, but I said why shouldn't they win it?

"I love Scotland and I want to live there one day. If I won the money I'd buy a castle."

William Hill said the odds on Scotland winning the next World Cup final were 200/1.

A spokeswoman said: "The bet is for more than we usually pay out.

"But we have made an exception for Mrs Craig because it seemed like a good way of celebrating the start of the football season."
