| Saturday, 24 March, 2001, 13:39 GMT Thunderbirds are Glas-go! ![]() The Thunderbirds are to be computerised by Absolute Studios An expanding media company has landed a contract to produce an animated computer game based on 60's TV puppet series Thunderbirds. Absolute Studios, who also made the official game for animated feature film "Chicken Run", have won the contract which will see them develop the "no strings attached" software to complement the re-release of the series. The deal comes as the three year-old company open their newly-extended Glasgow offices. Speaking at the opening of the new premises, which include a new studio and editing suite, Scottish Secretary, Helen Liddell spoke of the importance of the creative industries to the modern economy.
"It is vitally important that Scottish companies recognise and take advantage of the opportunities that exist in this rapidly expanding sector of the economy. "We know that the most successful economies of the 21st century will be creative ones. That is why the Government is determined to give our children and young people the education, skills and opportunity to play an active part in, and to benefit from, the knowledge economy." The Scottish Secretary expressed appreciation of Absolute's decision to keep the cutting edge facility in Glasgow, resisting pressure to move the operation south. Ms Liddell also praised the company as an "excellent example of what can be achieved through innovation, inventiveness, and a lot of hard work." Absolute Studios are no strangers to success with several accolades already under their belt. The firm won the "Young Start Prize" in Scottish Enterprise Glasgow's Business Start Up of the Year Awards and scooped a BAFTA award in the Best Children's Entertainment category for its Noddy game. Working on its 19th CD Rom title and its seventh television advertising campaign, it is also close to securing its first TV series commission, guaranteeing an F.A.B. future. |
