Flats in Moredun Park were evacuated

Residents in 141 properties in the Hyvots Bank area have now been told that they must be out of their homes by the end of June.

Edinburgh City Council officials were visiting households on Thursday morning to give them the news.

The local authority has pledged to do all it can to help those tenants and home owners affected.

And the council has confirmed that an independent inquiry will investigate the decisions which led to houses being built in the Gilmerton area in the 1960s.

That report is expected by the end of June.

Quarry workings

The problem first came to light in the Ferniehill area last November.

Investigators blamed old quarry workings, which were filled in and reclaimed several decades ago.

Residents started moving out of their Moredun Park flats last month after the subsidence fears extended to their area.

They have been housed in temporary accommodation elsewhere in the city.
