| Tuesday, 19 December, 2000, 17:02 GMT Skibo: The Full Monty ![]() Skibo Castle is no stranger to celebrity Madonna may be the most famous of the brides that have made their way to Skibo Castle, but it is a familiar wedding venue for celebrities who want to exchange vows in seclusion. Skibo, built by millionaire philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, has offered a private hideaway for celebrities over the years. The main castle, which can hold up to 100 guests, was used when The Full Monty and Trainspotting star Robert Carlyle married Anastasia Shirley in 1997. Carlyle had attempted to keep his wedding a secret. When a Scottish tabloid printed details he was reported to be furious.
It is basically nobody's business but mine." The Carlyle celebrations began on a Saturday night and were still in full swing on Monday morning. Some 30 guests, including Cracker star Robbie Coltrane and Trainspotting's Ewan McGregor, danced the night away to traditional music. The pair had initially wanted to exchange vows at Dornoch Cathedral, but were persuaded against the idea. Church officials worried that a planned pre-wedding function could have led to guests arriving at the cathedral in a "mode of celebration". |
