| Monday, 11 December, 2000, 16:39 GMT Newly webbed site for Madonna fans ![]() The couple's banns of marriage have been published Scottish tourism chiefs have announced plans to make the most of Madonna's decision to get married in the Highlands by launching a special website. The www.highland-wedding.com site seeks to capitalise on the worldwide interest generated by the pop star's plans to marry fianc Guy Ritchie in Dornoch on 22 December. Its introduction begins with a series of questions: "Is it because there is something very sexy about men in kilts? Is it because there's the cachet of tying the knot in an ancient highland castle? "Do you want to make your big day so special that following in the footsteps of Madonna and her Guy seems like the cool thing to do?"
Dornoch's tourist office has been deluged with enquiries since news broke of Madonna's proposed wedding at nearby Skibo Castle. The board's chief executive David Noble said: "We want to promote the highlands as a romantic get-away-from-it-all wedding destination, so this seemed like the ideal opportunity to get it up and running. "The site will provide some practical information about getting married in the highlands. "We'd also like to get our members on board by marketing their wedding packages." Expansion plans A spokeswoman for the board said it was unclear how many hits the site has had since it was launched on Friday, but she added the site would be expanded over the next few weeks. The showbiz couple appear to have bought into the Highland wedding package - a Scottish castle features in the celebrations and Ritchie, 32, is tipped to walk down the aisle in Hunting MacIntosh dress tartan. The outfit is believed to be a tribute to his war hero grandfather Major Stewart Ritchie, who served with the Seaforth Highlanders. Dornoch's provost Duncan Allan said the event was very important for tourism and a great way to promote a beautiful setting to the younger generation. |
