Stephen Hesford held on to the seat after a second recount |
Labour has held the Wirral West constituency after a second recount. Stephen Hesford kept control after an uncertain night in which it appeared the Conservatives might replace him.
The recount, which ended at about lunchtime on Friday, showed Mr Hesford beat Tory candidate, TV star Esther McVey, by less than 1,000 votes.
Labour held on to its Merseyside seats of Halton, Bootle, Crosby, Knowsley South, West Derby, Birkenhead, Liverpool Garston and Weaver Vale.
Liberal Democrat John Pugh retained his seat in Southport despite it being a Conservative target.
Labour also held on to seats in Warrington North and South, St Helens North and South, Wirral South, Wallasey, Riverside, Walton, Ellesmere Port and Neston.
