Voting for the mayoral elections in Stoke-on-Trent is to take place on the same day as the General Election. Seven candidates have put themselves forward for the role, including current mayor Mike Wolfe who will be standing for "Supporting Green Shoots".
The Liberal Democrats have refused to put forward a candidate because they are unhappy with the local system.
Stoke-on-Trent is the only council in the UK that has an elected mayor and a council manager forming the executive.
The city's Lib Dems say the system which allows the mayor to make decisions with the council manager takes power away from local councillors.
'System not democratic'
Spokeswoman Jean Bowers said: "The system is not democratic. It excludes councillors from making decisions and we have decided not to put forward a candidate for the role as a form of protest."
Roger Michael Ibbs will represent the Conservatives, and Mark Joseph Meredith is standing for Labour. Three of the seven candidates - Gary Chevin, Gary Oliver Falconer and Justin Harvey - are from unaffiliated parties.
Steven Batkin will represent the British National Party.
Mayor Wolfe is backing "Supporting Green Shoots" which says it is campaigning on measures to improve life in Stoke-on-Trent.
