SNP pledge investment as they attack Labour 'cuts'

The SNP has hit the UK election trail, pledging investment in Scotland's jobs and communities.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon claimed the SNP had put a record £1.6bn of funding into affordable housing across the country.

She attacked Labour for planning "deeper and tougher" cuts than under Margaret Thatcher's government.

Ms Sturgeon was speaking as Kilmarnock SNP candidate George Leslie launched his campaign.

The SNP claimed it was funding 500 times more council houses than Labour did during their last four years in power in Scotland.

'Deep cuts'

Ms Sturgeon said Alistair Darling's budget had failed to provide £350m of accelerated capital to protect 4,000 Scots jobs.

She added: "He has gone even further and admitted that Labour's cuts will be 'deeper and tougher' than even those of Margaret Thatcher."

Mr Leslie said: "The SNP is investing in jobs and recovery in Kilmarnock, just as the SNP stood shoulder-to-shoulder with residents of this town and workers at Diageo."

Voters will go to the polls to elect the next UK Government on 6 May.
