Labour attacked on economy record

Red flag unveiled by Tories
The Tories reveal a huge "red" Union Flag in East Renfrewshire

The Conservatives have continued their UK election push in Scotland by branding Labour's running of the economy "catastrophic".

Scottish leader Annabel Goldie said debt-interest repayments would soon reach £60bn - twice the amount spent on frontline services in Scotland.

Ms Goldie said Scotland's share of the national debt stood at an estimated £72bn.

Voters will go to the polls to elect the next UK Government on 6 May.

Ms Goldie said a credible plan was needed to put Britain "back in the black", adding: "The risk of five more years of Labour is more waste, higher tax, a worse credit rating, higher interest rates and higher mortgages.

"Britain is billions of pounds in the red as a result of Labour's mismanagement of the economy."

The Tories' claims came as the party visited East Renfrewshire, the seat held by Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy.

The Conservatives said they would take action, if they won the election, through policies such as holding an emergency budget within 50 days and increasing spending flexibility for the Scottish government.
