Ms Bagshawe said the dominant theme on the doorsteps was the economy

Health Minister Phil Hope has lost his Corby seat to Conservative Louise Bagshawe after a 3.4% swing from Labour to the Tories.

Ms Bagshawe received 22,886 votes, compared to Mr Hopes's 20,935 votes.

Conservative Brian Binley won Northampton South, which had been left a notionally Labour seat after boundary changes, with 15,917 votes.

Labour's Clyde Loakes took 9,913 votes and Liberal Democrat Paul Varnsverry received 7,579.

Tory Michael Ellis took Northampton North with 13,735 votes.

Labour's Sally Keeble came second with 11,799 votes, with Lib Dem Andrew Simpon in third place with 11,250.

The Tories also retained Daventry, with Chris Heaton-Harris polling 29,252 votes, compared with Lib Dem Christopher McGlynn's 10,064 and Labour candidate Paul Corazzo's 8,168.

Conservative Andrea Leadsom received 33,081 votes in Northamptonshire South, with Liberal Democrat Scott Collins taking 12,603 and Labour's Matthew May on 10,380.

Wellingborough, which due to boundary changes had become a notionally Labour seat, also elected a Conservative MP.

Peter Bone, elected Conservative MP in 2005, held the seat with 24,918 votes. Labour's Jayne Buckland came second with 13,131 votes.

Lib Dem Kevin Barron came third with 8,848.

Conservatives held on to the seat of Kettering with Philip Hollobone gathering 23,247 votes.
